Important Things

I'm here today to talk about something serious.

It's Twin Peaks. The greatest show of all time.

Hunger Cooking

I cant wait for the Hunger Games movie! I read the books recently and cant get enough of the dystopian future Panam! I also couldn’t read enough about the tasty treats Katniss and Peeta got to eat during their games. Especially those cheese buns! Well I found “The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook.”
While many of the recopies in the cookbook are unlikely to ever be made by me (how often do you run across pheasant and rabbit at your local grocery store) others are sure to become a staple in my recipe repertoire! I have already made Peeta’s cheese buns and boy were they good! On my list are the seaweed buns (even though my fiancé has already turned his nose to them) and the lamb and dried plum stew! I cant wait!

Shop Etsy!

As an Etsy artist I know how hard it is to get your work recognized and purchased and how good it feels to make money from things you love to do! That’s why if I want to buy something I always check Etsy first. It’s a great place for people to sell their unique wears and for people to find that perfect gift or piece for themselves!
While planning my wedding the first place I go for things I need is Etsy. From bridesmaids dresses to invitations if you want it Etsy probably has it and if not I bet you can find someone to make it for you.
I ordered my bridesmaids dresses here
I wont have them for a few months but I am so excited. She makes all of her items from recycled clothing. Old unwanted pieces become beautiful creations! I wish I had ordered one for myself!

Kristen's Best of Fall 2012 Fashion Roundup

Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about the fashion world, and it shows. Fashion is a very (very) casual interest for me! It gives me inspiration for things I want to sew, and who doesn't love looking at gorgeous clothing every now and then?

I haven't been into fashion for very long, but I've been interested in it for long enough to have a good handful of designers I am completely smitten with. So without further ado, I present my top 3 Fall 2012 collections.

Dogs in the city!

I want a dog. I grew up with dogs, I’m a dog person. But I live in the city in a tiny Boston apartment with my fiancé and we have a cat. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE my kitten but she doesn’t give me all the pet owner benefits I need.
I loved playing fetch and wrestling with my puppies when I was a kid. You get to teach them tricks and take them for walks. But I need a breed that will get along well in an apartment with less exercise and will get along with my cat.
Well I think I found the dog, its called a Berger Picard and its so silly looking! He is everything I want in a dog!
Anyone out there have a Picard? Tell me your city apartment dog stories!

The Hunger Games

I recently finished reading the Hunger Games trilogy and oh man was it AWSOME! If you haven’t read it already you really should! I was skeptical at first I saw the movie preview, it looks action packed and gritty but how could that be a young adult book? I asked around and when so many of my friends recommended it I had to check it out. I stated the first one and couldn’t put it down, the next day I went and bought the second and now I’m obsessed!
Katniss Everdeen is your typical young adult heroine. She is forced to choose between to monumental loves at 16 when most of us were trying desperately to get one boy to like us! But its compelling and Katniss is loveable and so are her potential lover boys Peeta and Gale.
The Hunger Game trilogy is so exciting and cant be put down. I can’t wait to see the movie but I strongly suggest you read the books! There is nothing like reading a book and become part of that different world!

Teenage Bedroom

Today I thought I’d post about something very important to me: my bedroom. There have been many versions of my various rooms, ranging from the pastel pink bedroom of my young childhood to my dorm room to now, my first apartment.

Goodwill finds!

I love Goodwill. I always find something. This was my first goodwill trip in Boston and boy did I make a find!
This Hamilton Beach stand mixer! Just like the one my mom used to have!
They just don't make mixers like they used to. This one is sturdy and in purfect working order even after all these years. AND it was only $15 which just makes it that much better!

Well hello there!

I’m Katie, I’m the other half.

I’m finished with school and have moved to Boston with my fiancé and our adorable kitten Dani.
She’s a rescue from Boston originally but has moved with me back and forth from school to home in Michigan and finally back to Boston. Luckly she don’t seem to mind car rides and even seems to enjoy people watching in the airport!

I’m a Star Wars fanatic!
Actually I would say I fallow the Star “Tri-Force,” Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate!
I’m still reading my way through the extended Star Wars univese but I’ve made a pretty good dent in it.

I love painting and making nerdy things with polymer clay. You can check out my Etsy store Katie and Kitten’s Crafts for Mario jewelry, Radish earrings and even custom pet paintings!

Hi!

I'm Kristen, one part of the Rats, Cats, and Other Stuff We Love blog. This being my very first post, I figured I'd do something of an introduction.

The boring stuff: I'm 20, and I study Women's Studies and Sociology at Central Michigan University. I'm in my third year here, and it looks like I have 2 more to go before I'm done.

The slightly more interesting stuff: I like sewing, feminism, Japanese, riot grrrl, and Netflix. Most of my days are spent at work and class, and at night I like to indulge in some tea and sew something pretty. Reading also takes up a big part of my time, and my favorite author is Haruki Murakami.

I have two pet rats named Margot Tenenbaum and Edie Sedgwick, and I love them very very much. They are the sweetest little critters, and they've only ruined a few of my things so far.

Recently, I started my own zine, called better days (which is also the name of an album by the Goo Goo Dolls, apparently). It's about anything I like and decide to write about--so far, I've covered Audrey Horne and Twin Peaks, Sylvia Plath, and my struggle with depression. It is laid out on 1-page, newsletter style. It is $1 (including shipping) on etsy, but I also accept trades, stamps, friendly letters, etc.

I can also be found on Tumblr!
